LAGOS (CoinChapter.com) — Leading fashion brand Tommy Hilfiger has become the latest multinational company to enter the ever-increasing metaverse.
The top fashion brand will be joining other major brands and luxury designers in the first-ever Metaverse Fashion Week scheduled to take place from March 24 to March 27, 2022.
The Metaverse Fashion Week which is a digital event will be hosted by Decentraland, a virtual reality platform. This event comes after other runways, presentations and installations were held during Fashion Month in New York, London, Milan, and Paris.
Hilfiger in its announcement said it will showcase its Spring 2022 collections and provide customers with a digital retail platform. Hilfiger has partnered with Boson Portal, a metaverse marketplace on Decentraland to offer participants a better experience during the event.
The partnership will allow consumers to purchase items from the Hilfiger store as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) during the fashion event. Interestingly, customers will also be to convert NFTs purchased in the metaverse to physical products at Tommy Hilfiger store.
Tommy Hilfiger, the founder of the company, also expressed optimism about the opportunities available for the fashion industry in the metaverse. He said:
“As we further explore the metaverse and all it has to offer, I’m inspired by the power of digital technology and the opportunities it presents to engage with communities in fascinating, relevant ways.”
In addition to Tommy Hilfiger, more international fashion brands are also scheduled to grace the Metaverse Fashion Week. According to reports, Paco Rabanne, Dolce & Gabbana, Elie Saab, Nicholas Kirkwood, among others will participate in the fashion event.
Popular digital designers like Auroboros, DressX, and The Fabricant are also expected to display their products on the metaverse runway. These A-list brands are expected to present new collections or reinterpretations of existing collections on the virtual reality platform.
Amber Jae Slooten, Fabricant’s co-founder in an interview said the Metaverse Fashion Week would save a lot of valuable resources.
“If this fashion week facilitates a place and time for people to come together online and not have to fly across the world and create all of those physical items/waste to produce 10-minute fashion shows, this would save a lot of valuable resources,” Slooten said.
The finale show will reportedly be presented by Auroboros whose collection ‘Biomimicry’ will be auctioned as a series of NFTs. It is also important to note that the Metaverse Fashion Week is free to attend for Decentraland users. However, customers will need an Ethereum wallet to make a purchase.
